We pride ourselves on creating a warm, friendly atmosphere built on community, openness, and mutual support.

About the Role

We are looking for a Kitchen Assistant to join our small and enthusiastic kitchen team, consisting of two staff members and 3-4 volunteers. In this role, you will help prepare and serve nutritious, home-cooked meals, maintain high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene, and contribute to the welcoming atmosphere that makes the K feel like a home away from home. This is a part-time position (30 hours per week) and includes a mixture of daytime, evening, and weekend shifts.

  • Basic cooking and baking
  • Maintaining cleanliness throughout the kitchen and dining areas
  • Preparing and cleaning of hostel-rooms
  • Following food hygiene and health & safety procedures
  • Supporting the wider team in creating a positive experience for residents

  • A willingness to learn and take initiative
  • An understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety standards
  • A flexible approach to working hours and responsibilities
  • Right-to-Work in the UK
  • Be aged 18 or over

Previous experience in a commercial kitchen is welcome but not essential. If you are enthusiastic and eager to learn, we will provide training and support.

A Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate is desirable. If you do not already hold one, we will arrange training upon employment.

Danish language skills are an advantage but are not required.

  • A friendly workplace with a strong sense of community

This role is particularly well suited to recent college graduates, young people looking to gain experience, or anyone seeking a unique opportunity to live and work in London. The preferred start date is in August, but this is negotiable, as our priority is to find the right candidate for our team.

About us

The Danish YWCA in London (K) is a youth hostel primarily for young Danes staying in London. Our main purpose is to support young Danish people and provide them with a home in the city. We do this by offering accommodation, providing practical advice, and helping with unexpected crises and challenges. Through our open events and activities, we create opportunities for young Danes in London to meet others, build networks, and form lasting friendships.

We are a home away from home in the city, founded on Christian values. Throughout the week, we share communal meals, and on Sunday mornings we invite residents and guests to join us for breakfast and traditional Danish morning singing. We celebrate most Danish traditions and holidays throughout the year. We are a house with a strong sense of community, built on openness, kindness, and a willingness to help one another.
